Christia Visser is a classically trained singer/songwriter whose uptempo alternative-pop anthems are the kind of songs tailor-made for blockbuster-movie soundtracks. Born in Capetown in 1992, Visser began training as an actor and dancer as a child while growing up in Swellendam, and spent several years dazzling on theatre stages and in Afrikaans-language films before turning to music full-time. In 2019, she released her debut single, “17 Shots”, a breathy, hopeful cut that showcases her powerful range and standout songwriting abilities. In 2020, she delivered on that promise with her debut LP, Gemaklik Verlore. Drawing from the likes of Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish, the album offers a mix of danceable, memoir-like songs about love and life’s challenges. “Each of these female artists inspire me, all for different reasons,” she told Apple Music. “I thank them for the mark that they have left on me.”
