American Wrestlers

About American Wrestlers

A lo-fi indie pop project that seemingly burst out of nowhere in late 2014, American Wrestlers was a one-man studio band that managed to rise above the fray thanks to inventive songwriting, clever low-budget production, and the support of the indie music blogosphere. It was the creation of Gary McClure, a musician born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. McClure posted an eight-song album on Bandcamp in late 2014, and sent links to a handful of bloggers and critics. Soon word began to spread, and Fat Possum Records stepped in to sign American Wrestlers, giving the Bandcamp album a physical release. The project expanded into a full band for the follow-up, 2016's Goodbye Terrible Youth. ~ Mark Deming
