No Doubt

No Doubt

No Doubt begin their first album in the most appropriate way possible: with a slap-heavy instrumental bass jam. Gwen Stefani doesn't enter until the swinging "Let's Get Back", and even then, her soft voice sounds more like Donna Summer than the woman Snoop Dogg would one day call the "true queen of L.A. punk". That rock star comes into her own as the LP continues. On "Move On", Stefani’s spunky charisma fills the eye of a ska-funk cyclone, and by "Sinking", she's remaking "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" as an ominous dance track.
