Pheelz Essentials

Long before Pheelz caught a global hit with 2022’s BNXN-featuring “Finesse”, the Lagos-born act was widely regarded as one of the most important producers in Afropop. From behind the board, Pheelz (Phillip Kayode Moses) received praise for his critical role in crafting some of the most important records in the seven-year run that saw rapper Olamide metamorphose from unlikely upstart to Afropop hegemon. On the rare occasion that Pheelz stepped into the booth during that era-defining run, he contributed to gems like “Rep Adugbo” off Olamide’s incendiary 2013 album Baddest Guy Ever Liveth. Pheelz has since fleshed out his catalogue while emerging as an artistic voice in his own right and moving through soundscapes with the ease of a veteran. He produced and contributed a stellar hook on “Crown of Clay”, the long-anticipated collaboration between rap icons M.I Abaga and Vector. “Honey”, a sappy collaboration with Reekado Banks and Marv, set the pace for the sort of saccharinic bops that have catapulted Pheelz to mainstream attention. In 2021, he released the five-track Hear Me Out EP, packed with balmy Afropop numbers like “Wayward Girl” and “La Vida”. The release of “Finesse” in March 2022 saw the artist-producer reach new heights in his career, while the amapiano-influenced “Electricity” definitively marks him out as one to watch.
