Ol' Dirty Bastard Essentials

Ol' Dirty Bastard was the resident loose cannon in a hip-hop group so rowdy their concerts could erupt into mosh pits. Spitting bars more like an unruly stand-up comedian, he turned the unhinged punchlines and outrageous metaphors of the underground into unlikely crossover hits. He snarled with teeth-bared intensity over the RZA's noisiest boom-bap (“Brooklyn Zoo”), shook up sweet R&B with playfully deranged rhymes (Mariah Carey's “Fantasy”) and fronted like a lecherous cartoon playa at the height of the jiggy era (“Got Your Money”). And despite his rep as a shameless court jester, ODB also matched any of his fellow Wu-Tang Clan members for mic ferocity.
