Yisa Yu: Walking By the "New" World

Yisa Yu has been a C-pop mainstay since making her debut as a contestant on the Chinese singing competition Super Girl in 2009. Ten years later, she released her acclaimed sixth album, Walking by the world. To ring in the new year, she curated this similarly named playlist, and shared a few festive memories and wishes for the months ahead. “Lunar New Year is about reunion and vacation,” she tells Apple Music. “Although there have been times when I needed to perform, I have always rushed home to reunite with my family at the first opportunity. Many songs here are about missing my hometown, relief, confusion and longing. It’s about learning to find joy in the time that you have.” Looking ahead, Yisa Yu hopes that the new year brings good vibes and inspires people to be themselves. “Everyone is their own person,” she says. “We should have our own ideas, make choices that bring us happiness and abandon those that make us feel worried, sad or inferior. Keep smiling and moving on.”
