Violent Femmes' songs are chock-full of angst, but it's tempered by dark humour and their rollicking approach to American music. “Never Tell” is a lengthy foray into Nuggets-style psychedelia that showcases Gordon Gano's curdled vocal, “Don't Start Me On the Liquor” speeds up the drinking-song blues and sly “Love Love Love Love Love” adds a hint of Latin flavour to the band's mix.
