Celebrated and prolific vocalist Vijay Yesudas has built on his family name—he is the son of legendary Indian voice K. J. Yesudas—while also carving out his own path in the Malayalam film music world since the early 2000s. Similar to how his father worked with master composer Ilaiyaraaja over decades, the next generation was called to action when Yuvan Shankar Raja invited the younger Yesudas to collaborate. The singer’s easy-going yet classically trained vocal style translates gracefully on pastoral hits like “Malare” as well as on a raft of romantic duets.
