With leading Russian rock figures at their core — namely Nautilus Pompilius’ Vyacheslav Butusov (vocals) and Kino’s Yuri Kasparyan (guitar) — U-Piter were tasked with carrying the scene’s rich legacy into the new millennium. Butusov’s in turn expressive and explosive songcraft fuelled their 2003 debut LP and a handful of albums that followed, referencing rivers and flowers as fervidly as alt-rock and post-punk guitars. Tirelessly exploring new territory in flute-laden odes and poignant balladry, the band wrote their own gripping, eloquent chapter in the history of Russian rock.
