Treasures of the Classical Era

As the Baroque era morphed into the Classical period, crowds wanted bigger orchestras (as well as more satisfying hooks). Composers like Mozart and Beethoven obliged with large-scale works full of melody and contrast. But ties to past masters still existed: Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's slashing symphonic writing proved that his father's counterpoint lessons were of enduring value.
