Like the quiet of a beach bonfire burned down to its embers, a deep stillness pervades Tora's music, with billowing keys enfolding shuffling hip-hop drums, and R&B-flavoured guitars and vocals that rarely rise above a hush. On their 2014 breakout “Overcome”, guest singer Merryn Jeann traces bluesy circles over woozy synths, and on “Another Case”, from their 2017 LP, electronic beats flutter like a quickened pulse, but the falsetto vocals remain soft as air. “High Enough” wraps a slow-motion house groove in close, gentle harmonies, evoking hazy dance floors eight miles up.
