Tony Williams: The Session Musicians

Tony Williams: The Session Musicians

Tony Williams' drumming was a mix of chaotic swing and polyrhythmic complexity, and it appeared on some of the most vital jazz of the '60s. His percussive tones dot Eric Dolphy's avant-garde landmark “Hat and Beard”, and he supplied the pulsating motor to Miles Davis' fusion classic “In a Silent Way”. By the '80s, Williams was working well beyond jazz, contributing the marching backbeat to Public Image Ltd.'s chilly post-punk hit “Rise”.
