Playful and witty, Adelaide’s Tkay Maidza has flaunted an elastic voice, rhythmic dexterity and a knack for catchy hooks since she burst onto the scene with her debut project, Switch Tape, in 2015. Chameleonic by nature, she’s bounced between hip-hop, electronic and synth-pop from the very beginning of her career, on her first album Tkay through her nearly annual series of EPs titled Last Year Was Weird. While shifting between styles isn’t easy, she makes it seem that way, sounding as comfortable trading bars with JPEGMAFIA on “Awake” as she does singing her heart out on “White Rose”.
