Thelma Plum's Summertime Sounds

Thelma Plum's Summertime Sounds

Like the rest of us, 2020 didn’t exactly go to plan for Brisbane-based singer-songwriter Thelma Plum. Rather than continuing to tour in support of her 2019 album, Better in Blak, the First Nations artist spent the year locked down—but not before testing positive for COVID in March 2020, making her one of the first in Australian music to go public about the painful experience. It’s sadly had lasting effects on her health throughout the year, too. Still, she was looking forward and getting ready for a relaxing, enjoyable summer. Here, she shared the songs she was listening to throughout the sunny season. Sweater Curse, “Close” “I love this band and they were the first gig I saw back from lockdown. Mon in the band is one of my besties, and I really like the feel of this track.” Miiesha, “Twisting Words” “Miiesha opened for me on the [2019] Better in Blak tour. She is such a sweetheart and her album is one of the best to come out this year—go and listen to the whole thing.” WAAX, “FU (triple j Live at the Wireless)” “'Cause Maz [DeVita] is a goddess and sometimes you need to rock out. It’s also has the sound of a full room of people having fun, which is nice to remember!” Kira Puru, “Idiot” “Another jam from Kira. I think it’s common knowledge how much I love her.” Thelma Plum, “Body Do the Talking” “Cheeky, I know, but I do love this song. It kind of didn’t fit into the original narrative for the album, but now that people know the context of the record, I am happy people get to hear it.”
