Hailing from the provincial city of Wagga Wagga, this six-man Aussie band has been refining its sinuous indie rock since high school. Infused with New Wave synths but driven by the simple, wiry energy of classic post-punk, The Ocean Party's songs are led by glistening, entwined guitar lines. Even when the mood gets slightly tipsy, the songs move with fluid clarity. Now that the group has mastered indie pop, they've started incorporating darker undertones into their luminous melodies. Their exquisite melancholia is a perfect fit for fans of The Shins and The Smiths.
