The Avalanches: Influences

The Avalanches belong to a cut-and-paste tradition that spans the early turntablist experiments of Steinski, the sampledelic rap of the Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique and the cinematic breakbeat epics of DJ Shadow. But they employ hip-hop techniques to produce a modern psychedelia that honours the avant-pop spirit of Smile-era Brian Wilson, mid-'70s Brian Eno and Fleetwood Mac's Tusk.
