The Amity Affliction's dramatic metalcore is as hard-hitting as it is emotionally intense. Breaking out in the early '00s, the Gympie band have never shied from heavy topics. They tackle depression's crush with surges of buzzsaw guitar and a haunting children's choir on “Pittsburgh”, while their orchestral choruses and pounding verses address the devastation suicide can wreak on “R.I.P. Bon”. And their cover of Pat Benatar's “Love Is a Battlefield” is an unlikely match made in metal heaven, with soaring synths and gritty vocals.
