In the early '00s, while the German label Kompakt was developing its bouncy, melodic techno, one of its key signees retreated into moodiness and melancholy. With his early singles, Superpitcher (Aksel Schaufler) developed a reputation for atmospheric techno and dream-pop torch songs suffused with brooding vocals and the swirling textures of My Bloody Valentine and Cocteau Twins. Fittingly, he has often been tapped to remix electronic-leaning indie acts like M83 and Dntel. But his playful side comes out in his duos SuperMayer, with Michael Mayer, and Pachanga Boys, with Rebolledo.
