First coming together in the late-'90s, English duo SND blur the line between abstract electronics and highbrow dance music, spinning hypnotic grooves out of microscopic digital sounds on austere but immersive albums like 1999's Makesnd Cassette and 2002's Tenderlove. While the clicks and pops of their fractured rhythms put a surprisingly luscious spin on the avant-garde sound of glitch, you can also hear body-rocking echoes of more club-friendly sounds like microhouse and minimal techno in their stark, syncopated beats.
