Seven Mary Three Essentials

Seven Mary Three Essentials

A latecomer to the grunge movement, Seven Mary Three managed to outlast the trend and stay active into the ‘00s. Formed in Virginia in 1992, and taking their name from TV's CHiPS, they cut their teeth playing bars and clubs through the South. Their breakthrough song, 1995's “Cumbersome,” took alternative radio by storm and turned their second album, American Standard, platinum. It also led to numerous comparisons to Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots. They gradually shed the grunge influence to add acoustic elements and became more of a classic-model hard-rock band.
