Sepultura: Influences

Sepultura: Influences

Early in their career, Sepultura were in love with thrash and death metal. The blurry shredding and percussive violence of Slayer's “Necrophobic” and the brutal grunts and grisly themes in Possessed's “The Exorcist” nail the Brazilians' sound circa 1989. Later, they leaned heavily on industrial and meaty groove work, reaching back to Motörhead's “Orgasmatron”, one of the first jams to marry slow chugging riffs to cold, dystopian effects.
