A specialist in barbed and aching social commentary, Ray Davies maintains the snotty edge that drove his earliest songs in The Kinks. The rowdy “Hymn for a New Age” and boot-scooting “A Place in Your Heart” are lively and bullish. “Stand Up Comic” and “No One Listen” are particularly cutting, giving smart-aleck comedians and computer bureaucracy both barrels of Ray's rage.
