Olivia Ong Essentials

Olivia Ong's music brings the easygoing vibe of bossa nova and jazz to soft acoustic guitar ballads. The Singaporean singer first broke out in Japan with teen J-pop crew Mirai, before releasing a solo debut in 2005 that revealed her love of Nina Simone and Norah Jones. Much of her best-known material consists of covers of English and Japanese pop songs, with Latin-inspired guitar accents that make familiar tunes like “Fly Me to the Moon” all her own. Ong's original songs are just as gracefully executed, whether dropping faster tempos or gentle electronic beats under her smooth vocals.
