Dance music history flows through MoMa Ready. The New York musician—born Wyatt Stevens—first made his name DJing at hallowed underground clubs like Bossa Nova Civic Club, spinning an eclectic repertoire grounded in generations of Black American dance music. In 2018, he founded the HAUS of ALTR label, and since then has put out records at a rapid clip, both on his own and alongside his friend AceMo. Much like his DJ sets, MoMa Ready’s productions are as unpredictable as they are versatile: Any given record might zigzag between pounding piano anthems, wiry minimal techno, soulful deep house, rolling jungle, slow-motion acid and more. No matter the style, he keeps the energy levels high and filled with emotion. What holds it all together is MoMa Ready’s determination to take time-tested dance-floor sounds and make them sound as gripping as the first time they ever rocked a floor.
