Milt Jackson: The Session Musicians

Milt Jackson introduced the vibraphone to bebop—dig his piquant counterpoint to Dizzy Gillespie's foundational “The Champ”—and helped John Lewis fuse classical ideas within Modern Jazz Quartet. He routinely brought a cool fire to everything he played on: He bridged melody and harmony alongside Miles Davis on the ‘50s gem “Bitty Ditty”, and navigated the ‘70s soul crossover of Stanley Turrentine on “Speed Ball”.
