Taking elements of death metal, thrash and prog rock, then fusing them with the intricacies of avant-garde jazz, Meshuggah are one of the most complex and fascinating bands in metal. Although they formed in 1987, it was their genre-bending second album, Destroy Erase Improve, that saw them explode onto the worldwide extreme metal scene. The Swedish band's sound would only grow more punishing and formidable on later albums, like 1999's Chaosphere and 2008's obZen.
