Martha Reeves & The Vandellas Essentials

Martha Reeves & The Vandellas Essentials

One of the most successful vocal groups of the ‘60s, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas initially formed without Reeves at the helm. By 1962, when Berry Gordy signed them to Motown, Reeves had worked her way up to frontwoman. Early singles failed to chart, but working with a new writing team, Holland-Dozier-Holland, proved golden. Several singles became million-sellers, and they produced a string of hits on the R&B charts and Billboard Hot 100. But the group lacked stability, leading to Reeves going solo in the early '70s. Their place in American music history, though, was assured.
