Texas-born traditionalist Mark Chesnutt brought the sound of vintage honky tonk to the modern country charts. Beginning in 1990 with "Too Cold At Home", he racked up hits through the decade, all sporting the influence of Merle Haggard and George Jones. While Chesnutt's uptempo songs are generally peppered with humour, his ballads are brokenhearted in the traditional country vein. But he also crossed over to pop material, even covering Aerosmith's power ballad "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing". 2010's Outlaws returned to his roots.
