Manu Crooks Essentials

Manu Crooks Essentials

Geographical borders don’t trouble rapper/producer Emmanuel Adu, aka Manu Crooks, who relocated to Australia from his native Ghana at age 12. His music jumps continents in much the same way, evoking America’s Dirty South with low-slung Auto-Tune and gurgling bass. He’s built up a sturdy reputation for resisting rubbish: “Got no time for bullshit,” he announces on “Day Ones”; “I do not fuck with the nonsense,” he spits on “Assumptions”. Adu has a subtler side too, heard on “Different League” and the romantic “Ridin’”.
