Dutch sound artist Rutger Zuydervelt launched his prolific Machinefabriek project in 2004 and his boundary-breaking drones quickly caught the attention of experimental music fans around the globe. Mixing analogue electronics with evocative field recordings, Zuydervelt's pieces unfold at a glacial pace, drawing listeners into a world of mesmerising abstract sound. While his drones can often be placid and quite beautiful Zuydervelt's love of rough industrial texture keeps his work more avant-garde than ambient.
