Mägo de Oz prove that Celtic-infused folk metal thrives in lands far beyond the magical island of Éire. Hailing from Madrid, these Spaniards craft a singular sound shot through with dancing fiddles, stirring ax solos and rhythms that gallop with all the heroic defiance of humble villagers defending themselves against all manner of blights. Well read and deeply philosophical, Mägo de Oz have produced a string of lofty concept albums, including 1996's La Leyenda de la Mancha, a modern interpretation of Don Quixote that finds them revelling in downright orgiastic displays of grandeur.
