From the time she was growing up in Toronto’s Scarborough suburb, Kira Huszar was drawn to music—she was singing before she knew how to speak, and she started writing songs at a young age. Her first single under the name LOONY, 2018’s “A Small Flame / Bitter”, quickly established her as an up-and-comer in the next wave of neo-soul, with her vocals darting in and out of a slick guitar line over a shuffling beat. Since then, LOONY has released a series of singles and EPs showcasing her exploratory spirit—”raw” has the loose feel of a late-night jam session, while the backing vocals on “Some Kinda Love” make her lovelorn lyrics seem heaven-sent.
