James Milne has played in The Brunettes, Okkervil River and Liam Finn's supergroup BARB. But his main solo gig is as Lawrence Arabia. He dons the headdress to suit the name and then lets his musical imagination run wild. 2006's self-titled debut was littered with lo-fi acoustic and electronic pop, spiked with Milne's wry and often amusing lyrics. Three years later, he was on more of a sunny '60s trip with Chant Darling, still flicking off whipsmart lines, but setting them to appealing guitar-pop.
