KIRINJI started life as a project between two brothers, Takaki and Yasuyuki Horigome, from Saitama Prefecture. In the mid-'90s, the pair created midtempo numbers characterised by subdued guitar and gentle keyboards. At its fastest, KIRINJI breaks into a disco-inspired strut, but for the most part, it excels at making songs perfect for longingly looking out of car windows. Yasuyuki left in 2013, but KIRINJI carries on as a band, continuing the relaxed vibes that helped inspire a new generation of indie pop.
