King Records: Classic Country

King Records was the brainchild of feisty businessman Syd Nathan. Based in Cincinnati, he focused on R&B as well as what was then called “hillbilly music”. While King's most successful artist was James Brown, the label enjoyed country chart hits with acts like The Delmore Brothers, Webb Pierce and Hawkshaw Hawkins. King was also an early purveyor of bluegrass, notably The Stanley Brothers.
