The little group that could, the Josh Abbott Band came busting out of the underground to the country mainstream in the ‘10s without altering their organic Texas Red Dirt sound. Blending country, folk and rock influences, Abbott and company have crafted a style with plenty of Western desert under its boots. Rock 'n' roll guitar meets back-porch banjo on their home-state anthem "My Texas", and a big, bluesy brass section slides into step with fiddle and guitar on the soul-pumping "Texas Women, Tennessee Whiskey", making it clear that this Lubbock crew are nothing if not proud of where they come from.
