Jel Essentials

Jeffrey Logan, better known as Jel, is an Oakland-based beat maker, loop digger and alt-rapper. He made his largest impact as a founding member of the Anticon collective, producing beats for Atmosphere, Sage Francis, Sole and his own groups, including Themselves and Subtle. Logan's '02 solo debut, 10 Seconds, was an affectionate tribute to the E-Mu SP-1200 that embraced the sampler's limitations to innovative effect; these tracks further demonstrate Jel's mastery of that machine, with occasional breaks for some Akai MPC.
