Horace Silver: Next Steps

Horace Silver: Next Steps

Besides pioneering jazz's hard bop movement, the pianist/composer also explored sounds from outside the U.S. His snappy "Swingin' in Samba", from 1959, predated jazz's Brazil boom by three years. Afro-Cuban rhythms rarely sound as cool as on "Que Pasa". And the title track of The Cape Verdean Blues elegantly captures the festive spirit of his father's homeland.
