British indie rockers Hefner enjoyed a brief but influential run from '95 to '02. The band signed to Too Pure in '97, and their debut album, Breaking God's Heart came out one year later. It was a deliberately lo-fi affair, with most of its tracks recorded in one long take, but Hefner showed increasing interest in developing as a studio band on their third and fourth LPs, '00's We Love the City and '01's Dead Media. The band called it quits in the wake of their last album's disappointing reception, but they are fondly remembered by a fervent cult today.
