Grizzly Bear's fantastical indie pop has earned plenty of praise, but below that shiny surface is a band constantly pushing into lusher and stranger terrain. Starting out lo-fi with Ed Droste's quivering moans haunting a lone, timid guitar ("Showcase"), they'd soon explore sunny psych folk ("Little Brother") before reaching for the heavens with angelic choirs and string quartets ("Foreground").
