Frank Yamma Essentials

The language that has you hypnotised is Pitjantjatjara, but Frank Yamma speaks a bunch from Australia's central desert as well as the plaintive English that has communicated more literally to spellbound audiences from Europe to the USA since his Countryman album went global in 2010. In any tongue, his devastating voice speaks of the essence of country and the ravages of cultural degradation with an honesty spiked by a lifetime of trouble. He found it way back in his father Isaac's Pitjantjatjara Country Band, and honed his electrifying guitar style with Piranpa and others before producer/ pianist David Bridie (Not Drowning Waving) facilitated the intense focus of Countryman, then Uncle in 2014.
