First World War: A Commemoration

No British life went untouched by the national experience of the First World War. A few talented English composers, such as Rudi Stephan and George Butterworth, did not survive their time as soldiers. Even those who were not conscripted wrote art songs and orchestral pieces that likewise addressed the gravity of the times.
