Italian composer, pianist and producer Federico Albanese doesn't see demarcation lines between classical and pop; as a result, his music finds a rare, meditative power in its drones and revolutions (“By the Deep Sea”, “Silent Fall”). Subtle, percussive clicks and hazy static find anchor in his rich piano, and he developed his aesthetic in part by scoring films. Since founding avant-garde duo La Blanche Alchimie with Jessica Einaudi in 2007, Albanese has composed a number of albums, collaborations and soundtracks that channel a colourful melancholy (“Voices”, “Slow Within”) in a way that seems to underscore the contemporary zeitgeist.
