Family Tree: Deep Purple
Apple Music
The movable hard-rock feast Deep Purple saw a dizzying number of band members form killer projects, some of which even rivalled the original group's popularity. Guitar hero Richie Blackmore split in '75 to form Rainbow, while second singer Ian Gillan went solo and briefly fronted Black Sabbath before rejoining Purple. Third frontman David Coverdale hit paydirt with Whitesnake in the '80s.
