One of the most critically acclaimed bands of the 2000s, Electrelane's unique and hypnotic sound wove together a diverse array of influences: the proto-punk of The Velvet Underground and The Modern Lovers, the post-punk of The Fall and Joy Division, and krautrockers like Neu! and Can. To that mix, the Brighton quartet added the impassioned politics of riot grrrl and the DIY hooks of indie pop. After releasing four albums and a number of classic singles, Electrelane went on an indefinite hiatus in 2007, but reunite on occasion for gigs and festivals.
