Donovan Essentials

Donovan Leitch grew up a restless Scottish kid in the English countryside. His first few albums mirrored the American folk of the early '60s, and he might have faded away had he not met producer Mickie Most while digging into the UK's new psychedelic scene. In 1966, the same year his pals The Beatles released Revolver, Donovan recast himself as a flower-power heartthrob and hit big on a run of pop-folk-psych albums beginning with Sunshine Superman. When the '70s dawned, Donovan didn't vanish like many onetime psych stars; Rick Rubin produced his 1996 album Sutras, and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.
