Moscow rapper Detsl aka Le Truk kicked off the new millennium with his debut LP, taking Russian hip-hop to new heights. With East Coast references, scratching galore, rap-rock grooves and socially conscious bars from collaborators like hip-hop stalwarts Bad B. Альянс, Detsl’s ’90s-inflected work was a massive commercial success. In later releases, the rapper explored reggae, favela funk—which also inspired a drum machine-driven EP of the same name—and trap before his untimely death in 2019. But there is no doubt: Detsl aka Le Truk has left behind a fertile hip-hop legacy.
