Confidence Man Essentials

Confidence Man’s throwback club-pop and runaway-inspired visuals made the Brisbane act immediate favourites on Aussie festival line-ups in the mid-2010s. Dual singers Janet Planet and Sugar Bones ooze self-aware charisma, as heard on 2018’s status-skewering “Don’t You Know I’m in a Band”. Their songs have only grown more slick and knowing since then, whether the focus is on comic swagger (2020’s playfully mouthy “First Class Bitch”) or mass euphoria (2022’s gospel-house thumper “Feels Like a Different Thing”). Confidence Man’s second album, 2022’s TILT, made them press darlings in the UK, while their singles proved increasingly ripe for remixes and radio edits alike. There’s always a strong sense that the group know their dance-music history, as evidenced by their loving 2022 cover of DJ Sammy’s candy-coated Bryan Adams flip “Heaven” from two decades earlier.
