If you didn't know better, you could easily mistake the music of C.W. Stoneking for authentic old-timey American juke-joint fare. But Stoneking wasn't born at the turn of the century in Tennessee. Rather, he's a native of Katherine, and his scholarly take on blues, calypso and ragtime first gained attention with his 2006 studio debut, King Hokum. Inspired by artists like Blind Willie McTell and Big Bill Broonzy, Stoneking's music is as smart as it is soulful. His shopworn voice and twangy guitar will transport you to a different time and place.
