Body Count Essentials

Ever since “Cop Killer” made them the most controversial band of the early '90s, Ice-T's Body Count have been dishing out rap metal that's raw, rude and flagrantly anti-establishment. Over shredder riffage and phat beats steeped in L.A. thrash and hip-hop, the veteran rapper splits his rhymes between bare-knuckled social commentary (“Born Dead”) and bullet-riddled dispatches from the gangsta life (“99 Problems BC”). Every now and then, Ice swaps his aggressive flow for a hardcore-inspired bark, something he unleashes with equal agility on the chugging “Manslaughter”.
